I really hate present day communication systems. It's too noisy! I have gone to consistently maintain blogs and posting and reading and sending newsletters to avoid posting. I find myself going through emails throwing out 90 out of 100. Lets just say FUNNELS are annoying AF! They simply congest the email systems and social media newsfeed.
There I said it!
On the other hand for my projects and as businesses we need the folks we’re connected to, to be more proactive in supporting and giving up their info as well as sharing info and more importantly taking action. as someone who started using technology to market in 2004 become today do not take action.
So I’ve been staging a sort of private protest by not cluttering up the streams…
I’ve been thinking of getting rid not just of the noise but those who only want to share and not share. Including those with businesses who ask us to share their info to out friends! they never share the info of others unless its paid.
It may sound mean but if I cannot send you an email why am I accepting yours.
Six degrees of separation goes both ways!
if you
Please leave a link to your newsletter subscription or info you want shared in the comments. remeber to state why someone would be interested.
That’s what social is about sharing! I share…
Folks usually seem surprised, but even if I may not be interested, someone I know may be. That's how this "social thing" should work. I should be able to reach a new interested person in less than six connections! Once connected I should be able to get viable info to you as necessary. The more junk in my email or feed the less I pay attention. I should not be posting just to be posting! its time I clear up the noise.
Too many email marketers have reduced the folks on their timeline to a mere mark. An opportunity to gain, not to contribute. It's an ecosystem and if the small fish do not eat the big fish will eventually have no one left to feed off1
Big companies act as thought they are special. I work with traditional and cultural artists. working with their hands is not only part of the process, it's their joy and their center. They are also important. I help them learn and leverage technology.
Their "Job" is not to feed the social media algorithm. Many have to learn to scale to justify using social media. They are sometimes reluctant. Even if they admit it's a necessity. However the way current social media works is simply ridiculous! people who create gain more spending the time creating.
That said, the shortest distance between two points is the shortest uninterrupted straight line! People who opt in to an email or direct communication are much more likely to see news they want. Messaging systems get directly to an individual but for small artisans group messaging is either ad hoc or expensive.
It's why I like the Telegraph platform.. Its easy to manage. My feed is news I choose without anyone making a decision for me! I can mute those I am less interested in and prioritize those I am interested in reading to notify me when they publish. I can even create folders by theme. Can I mention a very solid search system? Sadly or maybe fortunately very few people use telegram... because it's not Popular. or as they will say ..
"Everybody else uses XYZ ".
Getting off the social media wheel" and taking control of how you work and the results is hard because it involves others being willing to do the same. If we cut out social media madness, the cost would drastically go down. We need a system that gets rid of the unnecessary noise and directs the messages not to all the hubs hoping they stick, but to the correct hubs for delivery chosen by the receiver. I do not need the same message on Twitter in Messenger, Instagram, Snap Chat, Tik Tok FROM DIFFERENT people. That's not messaging, that's noise!
Then again, throwing away my digital "news" from my folks in my feed so you can control the value of your algorithm is not just annoying… it's wrong!
I have a close friend with whom I speak almost everyday... She is also a FB Friend, I follow her but we've discussed that I have not seen her post unless she tags me or I make an effort to scroll her timeline. We actively engage. She should be someone whose work I see every at least once a week. I finally saw a post just pop up... FINALLY?
No, it's an ad she posted.
There is something wrong with that! I do not have a problem paying to put my info in front of folks I do not know. I have a very big problem in not seeing the info from "Friend" or folks I "Follow". An even bigger one having to pay to reach friends I invited onto a platform. Especially when every 4th post is from some company I have no interest in! With poor quality cheap products! Short of reporting the ads, which I avoid because, it's peoples livelihood. I've been staying away from FB and other social media.
I'll read what others curate!
FB invites us to connect so we can engage, then does not honor their roles but rather leverages it for their gain. to be honest I hate the irrelevant stuff in my feed and have stopped using most social media for anything more than a quick scroll!
Now that I’ve got that off my chest… its time to unsubscribe from a couple dozens of list!
NFT outside the noise.
I’ve occupied my time exploring NFTs… well I started to then found myself really looking at the product and residual opportunities for arts, the other uses of NFT including Fractional NFTs and the culture of art licensing and value that assumes that 120hrs of work is worth a couple hundred buck because its “art”, but a social post is worth a couple thousand because its.
”influence”.
So in short, I started exploring NFTs and ended up currently working on residual revenue streams for independent artists, not just gallery sales auctions, licensing and patronage. Rethinking wearables, visiting gaming, even rethinking event merchandising. Do we sit back and allow a culture that impacts our value to “emerge”, or do we chart a course… Can we?
As an artist my art has value on garments as wearables much more than what the average NFT is fetching on Voice. We have built in utility based on the service we usually supply. So the main issue is scaling production if we’re to really visit the NFT scenario as a companion to the local art as product space. Early on I realized the present NFT space it's just too complicated and noisy. While Voice has now simplified this most artists I work with may not mind being part of a collective, but not necessarily on a "Platform" for these artists used to independent showings; the show format and presentation is part of their vibe. The present NFT selling format is really about marketing platform.
Most artists I know prefer to spend the time in the studio creating! It's fine if you want to "open up your process' however many clients for commissioned works prefer their privacy.
It's more folks who got into art because of NFTs that are the NFT artist… Those who cut their teeth on Digital or AI, who seem to really relish teh space. I do think there is a lot of use and usability within an art ecosystem.
I’ve honestly been asking myself why should I go through the hassle of NFT marketing.
Convince me if you can…
About the image.
images … color simply make post easier to deal with! The garments in the image were originally being developed as part of an NFT project. They are repeats and placed print of my own work as well as works in the public domain. They are now part of a workshop on art products and may be product themselves.
